Literary Tropes.
What on earth is a trope?
I didn't know. I never even heard the word before getting back into reading and writing.
I'll give you the Google explained definition:
Literary Trope: The use of figurative language, via word, phrase or an image, for artistic effect.
It can be a theme/storyline that is easily recognizable and serves the main purpose/intention.
Ok, so even reading that back myself, I'm still confused haha!
Let's roll with some common trope examples:
- Hero/heroine saves person in distress
- Person who was always thought to be "Ugly" but is transformed to show their true beauty
- Enemies to lovers
- Childhood friends to adult lovers
- Police officer falling in love with a criminal
These are just a select few out of thousands of tropes that can be used to tell a story.
So, what tropes do I lean more towards?
Well if it isn't already painfully obvious, I am a sucker for romance.
My top favourites would have to be:
- Best friends turned lovers (realize their true feelings for each other)
- Man falls first (when he was always in love from the second they met)
- Enemies to Lovers (recent HUGE favourite)
- A Bet bringing forth romantic feelings
Just to name a few!
Take a moment to think about what your favourite movies or books are. See which tropes fall under them and find other movies/books you enjoy to see if there is a connection.
If you're still here, I'm so thankful you are.
Thank you for reading my fluff.
